Description: RISE SICS is a leading research institute for applied information and communication technology in Sweden founded in 1985. As society is shifting towards an economy that is based on information, SICS endeavors to be in the midst of this revolution, boosting the competitive strength of the Swedish industry, and the quality and efficiency of Sweden’s public sector. SICS is a non-profit organization that carries out applied and advanced research in strategic areas of computer science, in close collaboration with local and international industrial and academic partners. The research is based on cutting-edge technology and has a time horizon stretching beyond the companies’ own R&D efforts. SICS executed over 250 projects in 2016 in close collaboration with industry. Spinoff companies from SICS had about 517 MSEK in revenue and 450 employees (2015). SICS employs approximately 200 researchers, including 76 PhDs whereof 32 professors, and hosts another 30 researchers from KTH, consultants and students working on their Master’s Thesis. Turnover in 2016 was 200 MSEK. The Swedish Government owns RISE SICS.
Main tasks in FUDIPO: In the FUDIPO project, SICS is coordinating the development of machine learning solutions of the different cases, and SICS is responsible for implementing large-scale anomaly detection and machine learning models for process prediction and control. Moreover, SICS will extend the current production planning model used by one of the industrial partners to account for uncertainties in the production process. This entails redesigning the way inventory is maintained and sent off to the production lines. In the role of Chief Project Engineer, SICS is responsible for regularly monitoring the status of all deliverables and milestones and to ensure in coordination with all partners. SICS is also WP-leader for WP2 and thereby coordinating the selection and development of the functions (algorithm and models) used in the project.
Adj Prof.Dr.Markus Bohlin: leader of the Industrial Efficiency and Automation area at RISE SICS Västerås. His research interests are in the real-world application of optimization methods and operations research to industrial processes. Between 2012 and 2016 he served as president of the Swedish Operations Research Association. He serves as reviewer and PC member for several scientific journals and conferences. His work has been published in more than 50 conference proceedings and journals. Two core algorithms he designed have been successfully deployed in industry. He is the Chief Project Engineer of the FUDIPO project.
Dr. Blerim Emruli: researcher at SICS with background in computer science, in particular artificial intelligence and machine learning. He has been working in collaboration with industry to create new and competitive automation solutions. He is interested in external value-creation, including commercialization of research results, research learning outcomes and strategies for assessing them. In the FUDIPO project, he has been leading WP2.
Dr. Tomas Olsson: researcher at SICS since 1998. His research interests are in statistical machine learning and big data analytics. In 2015, He defended his PhD thesis in Computer Science at Mälardalen University, Sweden. The title of the PhD thesis was “A Data-Driven Approach to Remote Fault Diagnosis of Heavy-duty Machines”. He is responsible for coordinating the Machine Learning development in the FUDIPO project.
Dr. Jawad Emolari:researcher at SICS and an experienced professional in the Operations Research field, who has built and applied statistical and optimization models to real-world problems in fields like supply chain, engineering, and pharmaceuticals for over 8 years. He is mainly working with production planning and time series analysis.
